Series courses are classes that meet more than one time for a specific educational purpose. The series courses offered in our course calendar are listed below;

Start a Child Care Center

This 8 week course covers a comprehensive range of topics related to the process of starting a child care center in New York State. These topics include regulations, NYS grants, building selection and design, age appropriate classroom equipment and classroom design, staffing, community needs assessment and marketing.

Health and Safety for Family and Group Family Providers

This training series is required for anyone who wishes to become registered or licensed as a Family or Group Family Child Care Provider in New York State. The material is presented in six sessions and covers seven specific training modules. This is a competency based curriculum, which requires the successful completion of written and demonstration tests.

Health and Safety for Child Care Center Staff

This is an optional series designed for Child Care Center staff. It will give material in all areas of Health and Safety within a center. It is offered during the days and covers 15 hours of curriculum.

Medication Administration Training- MAT

This is a required course for any Family, Group Family, or Child Care Center staff personnel that will be giving children medication in their program. The course is approximately 8 hours with an additional hour of competency testing time. This course has several options for registration. It is offered on one Saturday, two split sessions on two Saturdays, and a three evening series. There are currently funds to help cover the cost of training through SUNY. Call our registration department for assistance.

Family and Group Family License Renewal Series

Each 6 class series provides 15 hours of training covering the 9 New York State required training categories. We offer three different sessions, each consisting of different courses.

Child Development Associate - CDA

The CDA course is a 120 hour course that meets one evening per week for approximately 11 months. Participants may choose Infant/Toddler, Pre-school or Family Child Care. Participants must be currently working with children to qualify.

Qual-A-Homes Training Program

This is a training series for Family and Group Family Providers that takes place in the provider's home. An Education Consultant will come to your program during the day, once a month for one year. This covers 30 hours of training in all required training content areas.

Professional Development Series

This is a training and professional support series for Family and Group Family Providers that takes place at Child Care Council Offices in each county. An Education Consultant coordinates the program to cover all required topic areas, once a month for one year. This covers 30 hours of training in all required training content areas.
