Starting Family Child Care Programs Family Child Care means opening a child care program in your home with you providing care for up to 8 children, depending on their ages. Family Child Care providers and homes must be approved through a process called "Registration". Group Family Child Care means opening a child care program in your home with you and an assistant providing care for up to 14 children, depending on their ages. Group Family Child Care programs must be approved through a process called "Licensing". Legally Exempt or "Informal" child care providers can care for two children in addition to their own children without having to be registered or licensed. If those children receive county subsidy, the program is subject to certain regulations. Please call Tamika Johnson at 585-654-4742 for additional information. Begin by calling Child Care Council for an inital application or the application can be requested on-line at the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
Child Care Council offers an Informational Session that explains the family or group family child care application process and what training is required to become a registered or licensed family child care provider. The cost for this course is $25. Click here for class schedule. |
