Safe Sitter Classes

Child Care Council is continuing to offer a nationally recognized babysitting course for young teens and adolescents ages 11 and older in Monroe, Livingston and Wayne counties. A registered Safe Sitter® teaching site, the Council offers a comprehensive babysitting training program that prepares graduates to handle emergencies when caring for younger children and equips them with the tools needed to stay home alone safely.

Upcoming course dates are as follows:

Monroe County

  • Oct. 1, 2016 (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

Wayne County

  • Nov. 19, 2016 (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

Livingston County

  • Dec. 10, 2016 (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

Safe Sitter aims to reduce the number of avoidable and unintentional deaths among children being cared for by young teen babysitters, by learning infant and child choking rescue, American Heart Association standards for rescue skills, and first-aid techniques from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Participants also learn how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior, how to run their own babysitting business, as well as online and cellphone safety.
