EWPH Registered Dietitian

Job Summary

Are children your passion? Are you interested in having a positive impact on 3-5 year olds’ attitudes, behaviors, nutrition, and physical activity? Join our nonprofit agency, Child Care Council, Inc., as a Community Nutritionist.

Using the NYS Dept. of Health curriculum “Eat Well Play Hard in Child Care Settings” this position
supports 4 goals of the initiative which are to increase the consumption of vegetables and fruits, increase developmentally appropriate physical activity, increase the consumption of low-fat or fat-free milk and dairy, and decrease exposure to television and other recreational screen time. Implementation also includes assisting each center to create or improve their nutrition and physical activity practices and policies. The candidate for this position will be part of a team of Registered Dietitians in Western New York.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the EWPHCCS curriculum in 9 childcare centers per year, working with preschool age children, families, and staff. 
  • Conduct food demonstrations and share nutrition information with parents.
  • Shop for and purchase fruits and vegetables for child lessons using grant funds.
  • Conduct 4 staff nutrition trainings per center.
  • Weekly data entry of implementation steps completed.
  • Work in a team environment to ensure that all EWPHCCS activities are conducted in a consistent, cohesive manner and meet stated grant deadlines and functionalities.
  • Additional Nutrition projects as assigned.

Competencies

  • Must be a Registered Dietitian, or eligible to sit for the RD exam within six months of hire.
  • Must have daily access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel to childcare centers in Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, and surrounding counties.
  • Experience providing nutrition education to children and adults is preferred.
  • Attention to detail with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong independent work ethic and self-regulation in completing work tasks with intersecting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and comfortable meeting and working with families.
