How We Got to Where We Are

1972

The agency is founded as the Western New York Child Care Council.

1974

Child Care Council is incorporated.

1980

The City of Rochester funds the Council to support inner-city child care centers.

1983

Barbara-Ann Mattle becomes CEO, and the agency expands under her more than 35 years of leadership.

She helped build the Council from an agency with a $20,000 budget and a staff of 1.5 people into the largest Child Care Resource and Referral agency in New York state, with a $7 million budget and 60 employees.

1985

The Council begins a project with Monroe County to assist low-income individuals become family child care providers, receives United Way funding to provide enhanced referral services to parents, and receives New York State funding to provide Child Care Resource and Referral services in Monroe, Wayne, and Livingston counties.

1985

The Council is contracted to provide family child care registration services in Wayne and Livingston counties.

2002

Awarded a regional contract from the NYS Office of Child and Family Services to provide services to child care programs in nine counties that serve infants and toddlers.

2006

Legally Exempt Enrollment services are added in Monroe, Wayne, and Livingston counties.

2007

The Council begins providing family and school age child care registration in Monroe County.

2020

Jeff Pier joins the agency as CEO.

He has directed the agency through a global pandemic, secured diversified funding to support new and growing programs, brought new partners to the community table, and offered strategies for program expansion, partnership, leadership development, and excellence)
