Position: Early Childhood Education Teacher (EPK/UPK)

Reports to: Site Director

Evaluation: Site Director and Executive Director

Summary:

The Early Childhood Education Teacher is in charge of planning and implementing the EPK/UPK program with the help of the Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher. The Early Childhood Education Teacher is responsible for the safety and well-being of each child while attending the program, fostering positive commination with City School District staff, families and other program staff.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote, and implement cognitive, linguistic, physical, cultural, emotional and social activities and curriculum that are appropriate to the age level and the individual needs of each child.
  • Ensure that activities shall be student-centered and shall be designed and provided in a way that promotes the child’s total growth and development in all areas including emergent English literacy.
  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Teachers. Include the Parent Involvement Specialist, and the Site Director in planning curriculum and record keeping and to establish a strong, positive working relationship with all staff.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Responsible for attending yearly training seminars and other professional development training. NYS OCFS requires that 15 hours are required within the first 6 months of employment, and a total of 30 hours per licensing period. The RCSD requires a total of 30 hours each school year.
  • Comply with all requirements of the Rochester City School District and New York learning standards. Including, attending RCSD professional development sessions.
    Complete child and classroom evaluations provided by the Children’s Institute using Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) and Cross Origin Resource (COR),
  • Delegate specific jobs to the Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher; define daily expectations of performance in the classroom.
  • Provide a balance of active and quiet play, individual and group games.
  • Responsible for child evaluation activities including record-keeping, child observations, portfolio development and developmental screening.
  • Assist parents with identifying the appropriate support and consultant services available and help parents with the process of obtaining such services.
  • Provide a safe warm learning environment, including maintaining an orderly, clean classroom.
  • Responsible for adhering to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services Child Daycare Center Regulations/Policies and Procedures.

Job Qualifications/Experience:

Candidates must have a current, New York State Teachers Certification in Early Childhood or possess a New York State approved five-year plan that meets legal requirements, and leads to a teaching certificate valid for services in the early childhood grades. State-approved certifications are Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2), Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), N-6 (older certifications), or Special Education Birth-Grade 2. Candidates with a CDA in the Preschool setting will be considered, especially if they are open to pursuing these other credentials. Candidates must also have experience working with children in a school setting. Each employee must be able to pass a New York State Central Registry Child Abuse Database clearance, New York State Justice Center Staff Exclusion List clearance; as well as receive a health exam and Tuberculosis (TB/PPD) test. Current First Aid/ CPR/AED certification is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

The Early Childhood Education Teacher must have the ability to deal with children and parents in a positive manner, including an ability to deal with children with behavior problems, and parents who require attention with difficult situations. Must be committed to the mission and vision of Creative Beginnings Child Care, Inc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to reach, bend, stop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

FLSA Classification: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt, 10-month position.

Salaried employees are required to work full time hours as outlined in the handbook (or the number of hours to complete their duties) to include evening and weekend meetings and special activities coordination.

Salary: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour
