Job description
The Lead Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing classroom lesson plans and the supervision of the classroom. The program of planned activities should promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child enrolled at the center. A safe, clean and wholesome classroom environment will be well maintained for each child.
General Daily Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for recording and maintaining required information about child’s growth, progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance with NYS OCFS Child Daycare Center Regulations.
- Foster a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline in the classroom. Establish a constructive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center
- Observe each child to assess skills, interests and needs, and use information to facilitate learning and growth
- Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, helps parents/guardians understand the curriculum and find ways for family involvement within the Center. Conduct parent/guardian parent conferences at least twice a year to discuss each child’s growth and development
- Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children
Must meet OCFS requirements to be a lead teacher:
- Associate’s degree in early childhood
- OR Preschool CDA or other recognized credential specific to preschool AND one year experience working with children
- OR 9 college credit hours in early childhood or child development with a Plan of Study leading to a CDA, other state-approved credential specific to preschool, or associate’s degree in early childhood or child development or related field AND two years of experience related to caring for children.
