    A Quality Rating System in NY is coming!

    QUALITYstarsNY is a comprehensive initiative to ensure that our young children – the 1.5 million New Yorkers under age six – have the opportunity for high quality early learning experiences.

    During 2010, QUALITYstarsNY was piloted to 192 programs, providers and school districts in 13 communities throughout the state. The NYS Education Department hasd allocated funds to support implementation in 2012-2014. About 400 programs will be selected, including the pilot sites.

    Governor Cuomo Appoints Child Care Council CEO Barbara-Ann Mattle

    Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has appointed Child Care Council CEO Barbara-Ann Mattle to his Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC). Established in April 2009, the ECAC advises the Governor and his commissioners on the development of a comprehensive, sustainable system of supports and services for young children and their families. The ECAC is composed of individuals with early childhood expertise who represent agencies and organizations providing early learning and development, health care, child welfare and mental health
    services, as well as state agencies, advocacy organizations, foundations, higher education, unions and others working to meet the needs of young children and their families.

    The Greater Rochester Parent Leadership Training Institute announces a new course!

    The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a national family civics model, with a 30-year track record in providing parents the knowledge and tools of civic engagement to expand parental involvement in local decision-making.  The PLTI course will start in September 2012.

    Who will be in PLTI?

    • Parents and others who care for children – including Uncles & Aunts, Grandparents, Foster Parents
    • Rochester & Inner Ring School Districts – Brighton, Irondequoit, Gates, Chili, and Greece
    • Seeking broad diversity – age, income, education level, race and ethnicity, age of child

    Benefits:

    • High quality curriculum at no cost to participants
    • 3.5 hours 1 night a week, for 20 weeks
    • Dinner, child care for kids 2-13, and transportation provided
    • On-going support for Alumni
