Child Care Council Inc. CEO Barbara-Ann Mattle has been recognized with a statewide award from the Family Child Care Association of New York State (FCCANYS).

At the recent FCCANYS annual conference, Mattle was honored with the 2018 Friend of Family Child Care Award. She received the award in recognition of her 34 years of supporting family child care development and of her work to enhance the quality of family child care, both locally and nationally. The award also highlighted the numerous educational-program presentations Mattle has given at the association’s annual conferences.

“It is quite an honor to receive this year’s Friend of Family Child Care Award from FCCANYS,” Barbara-Ann Mattle said. “I accepted the award on behalf of the entire Child Care Council leadership team and staff, who work with me to improve the quality and increase the quantity of child care in our region.”

CACFP Week is a national education and information campaign sponsored annually, every third week of March, by the National CACFP Sponsors Association.

The campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) works to combat hunger and bring healthy foods to the table for children in child care homes, centers, and in afterschool programs across the country.

Repurpose & More Store Holding 25-Percent-Off Everything Sale in December

Three store locations to close during January for inventory and redesign

During the month of December, all items at Child Care Council Inc.’s three retail store locations will be discounted by 25 percent. The stores also will be closed throughout January 2018 for inventory and redesign.

The Repurpose & More Store offers a large selection of paper, wood, foam, poster prints, discontinued item samples (such as fabrics, wallpaper, paint chips and tile), scrap materials, and other over-run items donated by area businesses. Unique store items make fun and creative projects for crafters, artists and kids – and great teaching tools for child care providers and educators.

The three store locations are:
• Monroe County: 595 Blossom Road in Rochester
• Livingston County: 3513 Thomas Drive, Suite 4, in Lakeville
• Wayne County: 510 West Union Street, Suite 1, in Newark

All three locations are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Monroe County store will be open Saturday, Dec. 2 from noon to 3 p.m. as part of the North Winton Village Association’s Holiday Walk About and Open House event. Throughout December only, it also will be open the second Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Livingston and Wayne stores close from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

A business leader and a long-time volunteer were recently honored with awards from Child Care Council Inc.

The Council presented its business leader of the year and volunteer of the year awards at its annual Start Bright Gala, held at Locust Hill Country Club.

• Fausto Prattico, principal of Lavoro Group, was recognized as the business leader of the year. The Council cited his efforts to increase awareness of the value of early childhood education, through direct marketing to his business clients’ employees. His company also is the major sponsor every year of the Council’s Start Bright Gala.
• Mike Kramer was honored with the volunteer of the year award. Kramer, the Council’s longest-serving volunteer, was recognized for training child care providers in budgeting and taxes, for his previous service on the board of directors, and for donating numerous items for raffles and auctions at the gala.

“Fausto Prattico and Lavoro Group and Mike Kramer are tremendous supporters of Child Care Council’s work to connect employees and families with quality child care in the Finger Lakes region,” said Child Care Council CEO Barbara-Ann Mattle. “The Council is delighted to honor Fausto and Mike’s significant contributions to child care and to our organization.”

Child Care Council’s Start Bright Gala celebrates the critical importance of early education and high-quality child care in ensuring children get a bright start to the future. This year’s gala also highlighted the Council’s 45th anniversary.

Child Care Council Inc., a nonprofit that connects families with quality child care, recently honored child care providers with its annual Start Bright Impact Awards for exemplifying the critical roles that high-quality child care and early education play in the lives of young people.

The provider award recipients were:
– Julie Bennett from Early Learning Daycare in Geneseo. One nominating parent stated, “Julie is flexible, caring and compassionate. My son will attend Julie’s daycare until he cannot go anymore.”
– Rebecca Martinez from Rattles, Blocks and Books Daycare in Rochester. Martinez was recognized for her work in early childhood and adolescent development.
– Nancy Neuroth of Little Monkey Shines in Penfield. A provider for more than 50 years, Neuroth was cited for her work to give educational lessons and for a preschool curriculum with nursery rhymes, letter recognition, letter writing, printing, and counting.
– Joanne Dall, Amy DeSario, Michelle Hays, Gretta Schuler from Penfield Village Nursery’s Pre-K Program. Dall was recognized for being “a wonderful teacher with an enthusiasm to teach.” DeSario and Hays were nominated for their special birthday celebrations and for taking the time to share pictures of every child with the parents at the end of the year. Schuler was cited by a mother for the care she provided her son, who had become her son’s “best friend.”
